HEY Creative in the House of Commons

Having submitted a written response to the Northern Culture APPG‘s Inquiry into untapping the region’s potential, HEY Creative was invited to give evidence at this session at the House of Commons on Monday.

Chief Officer Max May reflected on the need for collaboration over competition, a place-sensitive approach, and how culture as a ‘core competence’ for Strategic Authorities could be a game-changer – but must value the vital role and expertise of existing partners including Arts Council England, local authorities and more.

Other evidence-givers included UK Music Ltd‘s Tom Kiehl, ScreenSkillsLaura Mansfield, Northumbria University‘s Prof Katy Shaw, The Glasshouse International Centre for Music‘s Tony King and Sarah Derbyshire MBE FRSA from Orchestras Live, who do great work in our patch and with our partners East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

The event offered an important opportunity to give perspective from one of the newest Mayoral Combined Authority geographies, and to advocate for Hull & East Yorkshire on the national stage.
