Manifesto Commitments
We’re asking all Mayoral candidates to make the following commitments to support arts, culture and heritage in Hull & East Yorkshire to thrive.
There is one commitment per Strategic Theme, plus some arts, culture and heritage specific requests to finish.
Transport
Embed arts, culture and heritage into the Local Transport Plan
Adult Education & Skills
Invest in arts, culture and heritage sector skills through the Local Skills Investment Plan
Housing & Regeneration
Arts, culture and heritage at the heart of placemaking and regeneration projects.
Environmental Sustainability
Enable arts, culture and heritage to contribute to and benefit from the Local Area Energy Plan

Transport
- Prioritising arts, culture and heritage in discussions and proposals for changes to transport systems, e.g. naming, routes and timetables.
- Creating initiatives that incentivise the use of public transport and active travel for arts, culture and heritage.
Adult Education & Skills
- Addressing arts, culture and heritage skills gaps and careers pathways through proposed activities and initiatives.
- Structuring commissions and funding opportunities in a way that enables arts, culture and heritage to contribute.
Housing & Regeneration
- Embedding creative methods into community consultation.
- Integrating arts, culture and heritage into housing, regeneration and public realm plans.
Environmental Sustainability
- Investing in arts, culture and heritage to enable the sector to be at the forefront of environmental sustainability.
- Utilising arts, culture and heritage as a powerful tool for communication and behaviour change.
Arts, Culture & Heritage specific requests
- An arts, culture and heritage mayoral hustings.
- A tour of the region to introduce yourself to the sector and understand its needs
- Sign and advocate the Hull & East Yorkshire Creative Charter
- Include arts, culture and heritage in Combined Authority boards and initiatives, including those for business, health etc.
- A financial commitment to arts, culture and heritage, e.g. following regional mayoral counterparts with an ‘X% for culture’
